Practice makes the master

he purpose of the exercises is to memorize provided information the way that allows students to get it back fast and use as language expressions automatically. It is possible under the conditions that allow incoming information to be received through maximum available channels (senses). It means that at least seeing and hearing should be used.

Perceived facts and related language expressions should be associated and memorized as so. Accompanying emotions, if present, play positive role in the process of memorization, significantly accelerate learning and then after short the access time to memorized expression when needed.

During the study of the Polish language several different form of exercise are used. They can be divided in the following groups:

Text based exercises

They are used mainly to introduce some grammar rules in order to understand them. Some of them are accompanied by pictures and/or sound. They also may be interactive.

Audio based exercises

They are used to teach pronunciation, accent and melody of the language. If accompanied by text they provide reading learning. They also train listening and understanding of the language,

Picture/photo based exercises

They are the most important and should be supported by a teacher. They purpose is to stimulate and generate language expressions that may be associated with them. They train the ability of the transposition of acquired knowledge to new situations expressed on the images and photos presented during the exercise.

It means that they have to stimulate student's linguistic creativity. It requires of course a teacher support. During those exercises the student has to generate:
  1. Dialogues
  2. Reports
  3. Narratives

It may be combined with the use of different tenses direct/indirect speech, etc.

Here is an example:
